Why we are running this event

Two years ago, our Headteacher, Mrs Park, set us an important challenge: to raise funds to refurbish the KS2 playground, which had become unsafe due to tree roots pushing through the tiger turf.

Her vision was simple but powerful – a safe, friendly, inspiring space where pupils could play, socialise, and relax between lessons. It was a dream the school itself could not afford; even four years ago, the cost was estimated at £45,000.

In June 2025, our school community received devastating news: Mrs Park was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), leading her to step away from her teaching career. The outpouring of love and support for her and her family has been nothing short of extraordinary.

The Friends of Hartburn Primary School have committed to honouring her vision. We will build the playground that she dreamed of, and we will dedicate it to her. Mrs Park has kindly agreed to help design the new space, and we will work alongside her every step of the way to ensure it becomes the joyful, welcoming haven she imagined for our children.

We knew that raising the funds would be challenging – but not as challenging as the battle that Mrs Park is bravely facing right now. This event is our way of coming together as a community to show her what she means to us, to honour her decades of dedication, and to create a lasting legacy for generations of Hartburn pupils.

Let’s do this for her.

Let’s build something beautiful, meaningful, and lasting – a tribute to a truly remarkable lady.
